Student Ambassadors

Student Ambassadors is a group of selected 8th grade students at Eudora Middle School who serve as a leadership advisory and mentor group. Their main objective is to improve school culture and promote inclusion making the school environment a positive, safe, and comfortable place to be for all students. Ambassadors have various roles, including assisting with the transition of 6th graders, conducting tours, participating in panel presentations for 5th graders at Eudora Elementary School, and serving as peer mentors. They also contribute to new student orientation, implement the SOAR (Safe, Outstanding, Accountable, Respectful) program, receive leadership training, act as liaisons for building leadership, and mentor 6th graders. Ambassadors are responsible for managing the SOAR Store and must fulfill various requirements, including attending interviews, participating in events like the 5th Grade Transition Parent Night and the 5th Grade Panel at EES, attending a summer workshop, assisting with 6th Grade and New Student Orientation, and wearing their Cardinal Ambassador Team shirts on the first day of school. They are expected to attend morning meetings or participate during designated SOAR time, and they must be punctual and available for all scheduled activities throughout the year.

Student Council

EMS Student Council is a great way for students to become leaders, be a voice for their peers, and positively impact the community. Some of the many things Student Council does is plan and run whole school activities, fundraising throughout the year, service projects, and promoting a positive atmosphere in Eudora. STUCO is made up of 18 elected students who each play different roles, there are representatives from each grade as well as a secretary, treasurer, vice president, and president.

Duties of each role:

Representative - Attend all meetings, report feedback from classmates to the council, participate in STUCO sponsored events, and share ideas and opinions.
Secretary - Attend all meetings, take roll at each meeting, keep a log of each meeting and what was discussed, and maintain STUCO Files. Must be in 7th or 8th grade.
Treasurer - Oversee council expenses, give monetary advice to the council, and help lead fundraising. Must be in 7th or 8th grade.
Vice President - Work closely with the president and assume presidential duties when necessary. Must be in 7th or 8th grade.
President - Lead all meetings, give assistance and guidance to other members and peers, be in contact with faculty and administration, and work with advisors on planning and coordinating events with administration. Must be in 7th or 8th grade.

Science Olympiad

Science Olympiad is a team competition in which students compete in 23 events pertaining to various fields in science. Topics change yearly and cover earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Science Olympiad is a great academic activity for students interested in science, math, and or engineering. Through research, participants gain more in depth knowledge about topics and study skills that will help them in college. Participants choose 4-5 events to focus on throughout the year. They will either take written exams about their knowledge of those topics or construct an engineering device and test its performance at various practice invitationals.

Students may sign up to participate in Science Olympiad at the middle school in September. Information about signing up will be shared through the daily announcements in September. Practices run from late September through February. During this time, they will compete in 3-4 practice invitationals as a whole team. Participants are expected to attend at least one of the two practices each week, either before or after school. In February, the team will be narrowed down to 15 participants representing EMS at the Regional tournament in late February at JCCC. If the team qualifies, the Regional team will continue studying for the State tournament at Wichita State University on the first Saturday in April.

Students in Science Olympiad have a $25 participation fee due in October. This fee covers the participant's team t-shirt and helps with tournament registration fees and supplies costs. Students will also participate in a few team fundraisers (concession stands, taco dinner at EHS basketball games, bake sales, etc.) throughout the year with the middle school team.

After School Program

The After School Program runs Monday through Friday from 3:20 pm to 5:30 pm on regular school days, excluding early release Wednesdays, breaks, and inclement weather days.

The program fees are $100 annually or $50 per semester, with a family cap of $200 for two or more children. Enrollment is conveniently embedded in the District Enrollment process, available online. The program starts on the first full day of school and concludes on the last full day.

During the After School Program, students can enjoy daily snacks and receive homework assistance, fostering their academic success. We value and encourage their unique interests and talents, providing opportunities for creative recreational activities such as clubs and initiatives. Additionally, the program promotes socializing and exploring various interests within a supportive community. Chess Club

EMS Chess Club will give students a fun place to learn and play chess with their peers. Students of all skill levels are welcome, including those who have never played before. Along with learning chess strategies, students will practice problem-solving, patience, sportsmanship, and critical thinking. Most meetings will focus on playing games, learning from each other, and having fun.

EMS Colorguard

The EMS Color Guard club will introduce middle school students to color guard through movement, dance, flag technique, and teamwork. Students will learn equipment safety, basic body positions, spins, toss preparation, and a short choreographed routine while building confidence and performance skills. The EHS color guard is now in its fifth season, and the club will create a direct connection between EMS students and the high school program. The group will work toward participating in Middle School Band Night on Friday, October 16, giving students an authentic performance experience. No prior dance, music, or flag experience will be required and equipment will be provided.

Polished and Positive Peers

Throughout this club, students will have opportunities to learn nail care and healthy habits and experiment with different colors, patterns, stickers, and simple nail-art techniques. Club members will develop patience, creativity, and attention to detail while working with peers to practice, support, and build positive peer connections.

Each meeting will feature a new seasonal theme or design challenge, making this club a fun place to create, learn, and express yourself.

MineCraft Club

Diamong Designs

Weekly lunchtime club for 6th grade students who enjoy creativity, crafting, and relaxing with friends. Students will choose their own diamond painting project and work on it throughout the club meetings. This is a fun, low-pressure opportunity to be creative, enjoy some social time, and create something they can be proud of.

Rocket Club

Each student will assemble and customize a beginner-friendly rocket kit, learn proper rocket safety procedures, and prepare their rocket for launch. The club would culiminate in an outdoor launch day where students could launch their rockets, observe their performance, collect data, and discuss factors that affected each flight.

Connecting with seniors

This club will connect middle school students with seniors in our community. Students will participate in activities such as crafting, reading to seniors, and other fun activities. It’s a great opportunity for seniors to interact with students while giving middle schoolers the chance to build relationships and get to know others in their community.

Cardinal LINKUP Mentoring

Hunger Games

An opportunity for students to understand and investigate domestic hunger in the U.S. and our own community. Our capstone project challenges students to put what they learn into action by working in teams to plan healthy meals, shop within a limited budget, and make thoughtful choices based on the needs of the Eudora Food Pantry. All groceries purchased during the challenge will be donated directly to the pantry.

Athletic Leadership Club

In this program, student athletes will meet in the morning to talk about leadership skills in athletics. With talking about our mental game, conversation from high school coaches and athletes, students will learn about what it takes to be successful in high school athletics and how to be a leader even at a young age. The goal is to prepare and encourage athletes to step into leadership roles on their team, not matter their skill.

Local History Adventures

Local History Adventures gives middle school students the opportunity to experience history beyond the classroom by visiting historic sites, museums, and landmarks in and around Eudora, Lawrence, Lecompton, Topeka, and the surrounding region. Students will explore local and Kansas history through guided tours, historical interpretation, and hands-on learning experiences that connect to topics studied in social studies classes. Potential destinations include Constitution Hall, the Watkins Museum of History, Freedom's Frontier sites, the Kansas State Capitol, and other local historic locations. In addition to site visits, students may participate in a history service project that helps preserve the history of Eudora or EMS through activities such as documenting stories, creating exhibits, or partnering with local historical organizations. The program encourages curiosity, civic engagement, and stewardship of our community's history.

6th Grade No Bake Club

This is a club to help teach students how to make nutritious meals and snacks without the oven. Students will get an apron and recipe booklet, ingredients and materials will be supplied. This is for 6th grade only as they are not able to participate in after-school sports.

8th Grade No Back Club

Wild Game & Fish Cleaning Club

This club gives students the chance to explore nature while learning practical, lifelong skills. Members will study wildlife and habitats, practice safe field dressing, and discover how to prepare and cook wild game and fish. The club also features guest speakers, hands-on activities, and a spring fishing trip - all while encouraging students to spend time outdoors and consider careers in biology.

Hype Club

The EMS Hype Crew is the student-led event production and operations engine behind our school's sports, arts, and academic events. Operating like a real-world creative agency and management crew, members work behind the scenes in specialized Hype, Content, and logistics teams to design digital marketing, run venue logistics, manage concession inventory alongisde RISE partners, and pitch event concepts directly to school leaders with the help of a mentor.

Hype Crew members gain experience in project management, graphic design, and public speaking - giving you a backstage pass to bring every school event to life while building essential skills for the future. Members partner directly with the Booster Club, Pep Club, and student ambassadors, attending joint meetings with a chosen "trusted adult" or LinkUP mentor to pitch creative event and intermission ideas.

Hilltops and Valleys

This club takes students on several hikes throughout the school year. These are hikes at various popular hiking spots, each a little longer than the one before to help build stamina for the final all day hike. This year, they will be going back to Tallgrass Prairie National Park.

They talk to students about hiking safety, etiquette, and the importance of appreciation of nature.

Cardinal Walkie-Talkie Club

8th Grade Golf Club

The 8th grade gold club will provide students with an opportunity to learn, practice, and enjoy the game of golf in a fun and welcoming environment. Students of all skill levels are encouraged to participate, including those who have never played before. This club will focus on basic golf skills, rules, etiquette, sportsmanship, and opportunities to play. Our goal is to introduce students to a lifelong activity they can enjoy with friends and family for years to come.

EMS Basketball Club

The EMS Basketball club will provide students with an opportunity to improve their basketball skills in a fun, competitive, and welcoming environment. Students of all skill levels will work on fundamentals such as shooting, passing, ball handling, defense, and teamwork. Club meetings will include skill development, competitions, and organized games. The goal is to help students build confidence, sportsmanship, and a lifelong enjoyment of basketball.

Cardinals Read

Literature Festival Club invites students to read high-interest novels, discuss them with peers, and connect with authors featured at the annual Writing Conference Literature Festival at Washburn University. This year's guest is author Steve Sheinkin, and students will have opportunities to borrow their books before the festival.
